Tranquility Farm honors Russell with memorial equine surgery fund

Thoroughbred retirement facility Tranquility Farm has created the John W. Russell Memorial Surgical Fund to provide surgical care for retiring racehorses in memory of the noted trainer and former Tranquility Farm board member who passed away on February 25 following a battle with cancer.

Russell, who trained for the Phipps family and the late Fred Hooper, conditioned Racing Hall of Famer Susan’s Girl during her three-year-old campaign in 1972 for which she earned the Eclipse Award.

"The Board of Tranquility Farm is most grateful to Diane Russell and to John’s many friends in racing worldwide for helping us to perpetuate his compassion for the horses," said Priscilla Clark, president of Tranquility Farm.

Donations to the John W. Russell Memorial Fund can be sent to Tranquility Farm, P.O. Box 210, Tehachapi, CA 93581.
